Cinema Romantics

Marlene Dietrich in Marokko – secretly watched on your parents’ small black and white television when you were a little kid, through a crack in the door. Ingrid in Casablanca came later, then Grace Kelly in the Hitchcock movies of the 1950s. And then Romy Schneider in the French thrillers of the 1970s – complex, attractive and mysterious. David Lynch finally brought Nouvelle Vague to America and Isabella Rossellini sang “Blue Velvet”.

The idea for Cinema Romantics came up a few years ago in a Berlin bar. Zero Solaris and Graf Tati scribbled the names of their favorite actresses on beer – coasters – film divas they would like to make songs about. Maybe this would have been forgotten by the next day, but the coasters reappeared and the two began songwriting.

Supported by Kulturamt Köln, Cinema Romantics recorded their debut album and had it pressed on vinyl. In 2023, the album also was released on streaming platforms. Lucas Croon mixed the tracks and photographer Cristina Coral kindly provided a pictures for the album cover.

The Cinema Romantics live show is both, a reading and a concert. Between songs Miss Django reads texts about the film icons sung about. It is around 60 minutes and it includes multilingual songs and texts about Romy Schneider, Isabella Rossellini, Jeanne Moreau, Maggie Cheung, Helmut Berger, Ornella Muti, Pam Grier, Marilyn Monroe and others
